Qantas A380 will arrive in Dresden for maintenance at EFW on January 14, 2025
Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH (EFW) is expecting an A380: the world's largest passenger aircraft will arrive in Dresden on January 14 from the Australian airline Qantas. The reason is to carry out maintenance work (MRO), which EFW is one of the few experts worldwide that can carry out.
The A380 will be flown by a crew of four pilots accompanied by other crew members from Sydney via Singapore to Dresden on Tuesday morning and is expected to arrive at around 10:00 a.m. local time. Those interested can watch the landing of the mega-liner at Dresden Airport. The globetrotter, who has been flying passengers on connections from Down Under to Europe (London), the USA and Asia and back for a good decade, is no stranger to the EFW team. The aircraft was in Dresden in 2020 for maintenance and a comprehensive cabin renovation. After the maintenance work that is now due has been completed, the aircraft will leave the EFW hangars again in a few weeks. This will not be the Australian airline's only visit to Dresden. Several Qantas A380s will be coming to EFW for maintenance work at short intervals over the course of the first half of the year.
The A380 has been put back into service by many airlines on international routes and has recently experienced a strong comeback, leading to a growing demand for maintenance services. EFW started MRO for A380s again last year after a long break. As a prelude, the first A380 from Global Airlines arrived in Dresden in autumn 2024 for a comprehensive maintenance event (Heavy MRO) after long-term parking. The work has been completed at EFW and is an important milestone that ensures the airworthiness of Global Airlines' A380 and thus helps to bring this A380 back into the skies for regular operations. In recent years, Dresden has received over 50 Airbus A380s, all of which were serviced at EFW. In addition to the maintenance division, EFW converts passenger aircraft into cargo aircraft (P2F). In addition to Dresden, EFW also manages several conversion sites on three continents.
